God doesn't merely give something from His hand, He gives Himself. The Father gives Himself in love and adopts us as His own. The Son embodies all that God is through His incarnation and redeems His people for His own. The Spirit dwelling in the believer, makes the presence of God a reality in His own. There are many good and perfect gifts that come down from the "Father of lights", but none more precious than this: God gives God. In the gospel, we receive not simply gifts, but the Gift-Giver; not simply grace, but the Grace-Giver; not simply life, but the Life-Giver. At Christmas ,we celebrate the eternal, infinite God, who took on flesh, and came near that we might know Him, enjoy Him, and belong to Him forever. In Christ, God’s greatest gift is God Himself!
